Paging...

I like my infrastructure to be quiet, doing its job without fuss or alarms or 2am emergencies, and I've put a lot of years (two decades!) into thinking deeply about ways to ensure that quietness.

I've been on the pager rotation for company infrastructure for most of those two decades, and I've still managed to get a lot of sleep. Not by ignoring the pager, but by relentlessly ensuring the pager isn't needed. Finding the points of failure and making them more resilient, or automating the fixes.
